"The unity centre helps people in a mad world, it is a little oasis providing a safe haven. I volunteer here to help others and give something back. Its has helped me during a difficult time in my life, when I have been caring for my wife who is suffering from dementia.

“I have been volunteering at Lowestoft Mencap, Unity Centre for the last 10 months and its been really life enhancing.
I am an 81 year old grandmother and great grandmother. As a retired psychiatric nursing assistant. I felt that my experience was being under used and being at the centre has given me the opportunity to be engaging in this highly rewarding area of community love. I have been happy to work with some of the nicest folk both services users and staff, that I have ever met.

I have observed that the services users (although some are classified as having learning difficulties) – have much more common sense and practical skills than I have and its been a privilege to work with and for them, in fact I am learning all the time

Its been a delight to have the chance to retain to the enabling/supporting/ caring role which I had previously enjoyed for so many years”  ​
